Bryant turned 18 months and we have a true toddler on our hands. He is into everything. He is so small, lean, strong and super fast. I call him Houdini. He has learned to climb out of the high chair, get on all the furniture, go head first down the slide, climb in/out of the bathtub, scale the swing set and can disappear from me in a second flat. In other words he is all boy and runs me ragged. Can't complain, I am happy he is making such remarkable progress.
His speech has taken off too. He has about 40 words and has started putting a few words together. This past weekend he said his first sentence "Momma all done." Tonight he said "Bye Bye Bug." So stinking proud of my baby. He sings "Go Go" to the Wiggles (who I despise and he loves). He is obsessed with Elmo and Sesame Street. He loves bugs, worms and anything in the yard. He loves animals. He can say all of the animals and sounds in "Brown Bear, Brown Bear." His favorite book.
We went to the doctor on Monday for our 18 month visit. Bryant has met all of his 18 month milestones. Yeah. On the downside he weighed only 17lb 9oz. I was so disappointed as I thought we had made it to 18 1b. The feeding has been very difficult and while it has gotten a little better we still struggle daily. He doesn't meet his caloric requirements most days and he is burning off calories like crazy due to his activity level. I remember with the girls this is the time when they slow down eating and become more picky. I do think this is some of it but not all. I feel he never learned to eat properly. We are getting a feeding evaluation from an occupational therapist and doing some metabolic and other testing to make sure we aren't missing anything. It has been quite frustrating for us because he truly doesn't care too much about food and is more interested in playing. Hopefully soon he will begin to pick-up with the eating. Please pray for Bryant to eat. I know that sounds crazy but his lack of eating/growth has caused us quite a bit of stress and anxiety. We want the best for our son as any parent does. We love him to pieces.
We have had lots of firsts this month. We have taken him to the pool, zoo and the beach. He adores the pool and the water. The zoo was fun as he is amazed by animals. Last weekend we took him to the beach. He was scared of the ocean at first but then after getting comfortable and realizing I wasn't going to let him go he enjoyed it. He loved the sand and running down the beach. We took him to meet two incredible women from our adoption agency who helped us bring him home. Without them it would not have been possible. It was such a wonderful feeling to enjoy the day with them and have Bryant with us. One year ago what began as a simple phone call to these women turned into a journey across the world to bring home a child who has touched us more than you can ever imagine. I felt like things had come full circle, our family was complete and in the mean time we had met two lifelong friends. Blessed beyond belief.
My baby in my favorite outfit. Every little boy needs searsucker, saddle oxfords and knee socks
